Considered as the Italian "Food Valley" in the world: it is the area of Emilia rotating around Parma, a town which is synonymous of history, pleasant singing and very good oenology-gastronomy. The town - where the maestro Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957) was born and which was also beloved to Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) whose famous melodies still in the present days reverberate in the renowned Teatro Regio during the annual Festival Verdiano (www.teatroregioparma.org) - is the ideal starting point to discover an extraordinary territory where charcuterie and cheeses - amongst which the culatello and the parmigiano reggiano distinguish - harmoniously get together with small hamlets suspended in time, fairy-like castles, beneficial thermal waters, mild hills and so much more. Within a twenty kilometres distance from Parma - where the Duomo (1281), important cathedral in the pretty Po River-Romanic architectural style and the Battistero (1307), octagonal-shaped baptistery covered with red-coloured marble of Verona, you reach Fidenza which in the Middle Ages was an important halting place along the Via Francigena (major route the pilgrims used to travel from Santiago de Compostela to Rome in the name of the Christian faith). In this last town - which is overlooked by its Duomo (XII century) - a visit to the "Fidenza Village", huge outlet counting over than 70 boutiques, cannot be missedially by those people who are fond of la mode griffée while for those ones who are health fanatics…well, their obligatory stopping places are Salsomaggiore Terme and Tabiano, whose fame mainly owes to the thermal waters' benefits since the age of the ancient Romans. Furthermore, the people interested into sport have within reach in the vicinity of Salsomaggiore, the nearest golf course while other 4 golf courses are reachable within a 50-kilometer radius. And in addition to all of this, the district of Parma offers the suggestive atmospheres of the ancient manor-houses representing in outline hills and valleys such as Vigoleno, Fontanellato, Castell'Arquato, Bardi, Torrechiara and Tabiano Castello. This last little hamlet is a real goody resort… for a kind of stay to live under the banner of stillness and in the pretty atmosphere of the times gone by. Truly not to miss. Fidenza Km 25, Tabiano Castello Km 30, Salsomaggiore Terme Km 40, Piacenza Km 75, Bologna Km 105, Mantova Km 115, Milano Km 130, Verona Km 150, Firenze Km 200.
Leave the clock and the calendar behind and turn back the time. It is easy imaging scenes of ladies of rank and cloak-and-dagger knights in Tabiano Castello, small medieval borgo (XI century) still surprising the traveller because of the integrity of its hamlet-planning protected by the Cultural Heritage Office. Settled on a hill and a few Km away from Salsomaggiore Terme, renowned locality thanks to its thermal founts and to the liberty style architecture of its palaces, the hamlet is set in the long strip of the Apennines Mounts running from Piacenza-Parma to the Adriatic Sea: a territory rich in history, art and excellent oenology-gastronomy. Inside the borgo, having a double fortified enclosure walls, crossing the drawbridge over you reach the ancient Guard Tower accommodating the two apartments named Canonica 1 and 2, while a little bit farther, is located Casa Agata accommodating other two apartments. The shared feature of the lodgings is the warm atmosphere: in between wrought-iron and wooden furnishings including some ancient pieces, in between ceilings with visible wooden beams and walls with stones and bricks, all of this harmonizing either with the soft tonalities fading out into the sand, yellow, azure, rosy colours and with some modern concessions such as Tv at plasma and bathtubs with hydro-massage. Besides, the guests can enjoy the outdoor shared pool (with hydro-massage) placed in the wide garden or the secluded indoor health spa consisting of sauna, Turkish bat, Jacuzzi and beauty treatments on demand. The peculiarity of the stay, is that of enjoying in calmness the historical beauties of the borgo where beyond the boundary walls extend the ancient houses once dwelt by the tailor, the shoemaker and the blacksmith, implicitly revealing, together with the ex-cheese factory, the pigsty and the ice-house, how the hamlet's life used to be in the past. In the present days, the tradition keeps passing through also in the typical dishes offered by the tavern "Da Oscar", a real reference point inside of the borgo, normally inhabited by some twenty people.
